HUNTSVILLE | The Gulf South Conference announced its annual men's basketball awards on Tuesday, and The University of Alabama in Huntsville extended its conference-record streak of having an all-GSC selection to 25 years as
Chaney Johnson is a First Team All-GSC honoree.

UAH has had an all-conference player every year since the 1997-98 season.

Johnson has had a terrific campaign in his second season as a Charger, averaging 16.9 points per game on the strength of a 59.0 percent shooting mark, and the freshman is rebounding the basketball at a 5.5 per game clip. Additionally, the Alabaster, Alabama, native has totaled 22 blocks and 20 steals to go along with 25 assists.

Among his GSC peers, Johnson ranks fourth in the league in scoring, third in field goal percentage, 11th in free throw percentage, tied for 14th in blocked shots, and tied for 19th in rebounding.

Of the 28 games in which Johnson has appeared, he has scored in double figures in 27 of them, and he has scored at least 20 points in 10, including a season-high 35 against Embry-Riddle.

Johnson has also made at least 10 shots in six different games.

Johnson and his teammates will be back in action on Tuesday when the Chargers welcome West Georgia to Kelly Court at Spragins Hall for the quarterfinals of the 2022 GSC Men's Basketball Championship presented by TicketSmarter.
