HOMEWOOD, Ala. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville is set to take on top-seeded West Alabama on Saturday in the semifinals of the Gulf South Conference Men's Basketball Championship presented by TicketSmarter, with tip-off slated for 5 p.m. at the Pete Hanna Center on the campus of Samford University.

UAH enters the game at 20-10, while UWA is 24-5.

The Chargers are making their fourth consecutive appearance in the semifinals, and it is the 13th overall trip to this round of the conference tournament.Â

The team advanced to Saturday with a big 86-63 victory on Super Tuesday against West Georgia.

In that contest,
CJ Williamson became the third Charger this season to have a 30-point game as he poured in 31, and he joins
Chaney Johnson who scored 35 against Embry-Riddle on Nov. 7 and
Luke Burnett who tallied 34 against Oakwood on Nov. 24.

Johnson leads UAH with 16.8 points per game, while Williamson is just behind him with 16.4 per outing.

West Alabama secured its spot in the semifinals with a 71-58 victory on Tuesday, and the team was led by Justin Allison who had 20 and Shardarrion Allen who had 17 points and 16 rebounds.

UWA is led on the year by Kortrijk Miles who has a scoring average of 18.2 to go along with a rebounding mark of 8.1 boards per contest, while Allen is averaging 13.2 per game. Both were All-GSC selections.

This will represent the third time that UAH and UWA have met in the conference tournament, with UAH winning 73-68 in the championship game in 2015 and 82-69 in the semifinals in 2019.

When the two squads met for their only encounter in the regular season this year, the Tigers were 69-68 winners.
Chaney Johnson scored 26 in the contest to pace UAH, and the Chargers nearly pulled off the road win, having two great looks near the buzzer that did everything but fall.

The winner of Saturday's contest will take on the winner of Union and Lee in the championship game on Sunday which is scheduled for 3 p.m.
