HUNTSVILLE | The 2021-22 CoSIDA Academic All-America Men's Cross Country and Track & Field Teams have been announced, and The University of Alabama in Huntsville was represented by
Alex Herbst as UAH's 30th CoSIDA Academic All-America Second Team honoree.

Herbst's Academic All-America honor is the fourth by a UAH runner, as
Brydon Groves-Scott previously won the award in 2019 and 2018 as well as Josh Moshier in 2012 with the program's first Academic All-America distinction.

The Selma, Indiana, native had an outstanding 2021 season with the Chargers cross country squad, as he was both an All-Gulf South Conference performer as well as an All-South Region honoree.

While helping UAH achieve its highest-ever team placing at Nationals, Herbst was named the 2021 NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships Elite 90 Award winner as the student-athlete with the highest GPA at their NCAA championship event.

Herbst carries a 4.0 GPA as a mechanical engineering major.

The Division II Academic All-America program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2021-22 Division II Academic All-America program.
