BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | Sam Wilhelm represented the UAH men's track & field honoree as the first Gulf South Conference Track Athlete of the Week for the 2023-24 campaign as announced on Wednesday morning.
 
This is Wilhelm's first career GSC Athlete of the Week award.
 
A native of Knob Noster, Missouri, Wilhelm registered an NCAA provisional time at the Boston University Season Opener on Saturday in the 5000-meter race with a clocking of 14:19.93.
 
His time on Saturday ranks 14th in NCAA Division II, which also breaks the program record of 14:28.59 set by Alex Herbst in 2021.
 
Wilhelm, along with the rest of the Chargers, continue the indoor schedule in the New Year on Jan. 12 at the UAB Blazer Invitational.
