HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's basketball team hosts a First Round matchup for the 2023 Gulf South Conference Men's Basketball Championships as the first seed against eighth-seeded Mississippi College on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall.
Tickets are still available for Tuesday's game with $12 reserved seating and $10 general admission. All UAH students get in free with Charger Card swipe.

UAH notched the program's 22nd all-time berth to the GSC tournament, as the squad also earned the right to host in the First Round as the No. 1 seed after winning the GSC Regular Season Championship with a 19-5 conference record this season.

The Chargers enter this season's GSC championships as the reigning conference tournament champion from a year ago, after defeating West Georgia, West Alabama and Union to secure the program's fifth GSC tournament championship and second under head coach
John Shulman in 2021-22.

UAH went 24-6 overall in the 2022-23 regular season that included its 19-5 mark in GSC play, as the squad eclipsed the 20 wins for the third time in the last four seasons.

This season, UAH is averaging 77.0 points per game over 30 contests in the regular season led by
Chaney Johnson who rates seventh in the GSC with 16.0 points per game. Johnson additionally seventh in the league with 6.6 rebounds per game.

Coach Shulman's squad features a balanced scoring attack with four players averaging 10 points or more including Johnson (16.0 PPG),
Luke Burnett (13.8 PPG),
Max Shulman (12.0 PPG) and
CJ Williamson (10.1 PPG). In addition to scoring efficiency, UAH's defense is third in the league with 14.3 forced turnovers per game while holding teams to 70.5 points per game to rate fifth in the GSC.

Mississippi College enters the GSC postseason tournament with a 15-13 overall record and an 11-13 mark in GSC play to earn the eighth seed. The Choctaws offense averages 71.8 points per game led by Tradavis Thompson at a 17.1 scoring average, while the MC defense allows 67.8 points per game.

This will be the first-ever meeting between UAH and Mississippi College in the GSC tournament, as the two programs have previously matched up 20 times in the regular season with the Chargers leading the all-time series 13-7.

The winner of Tuesday night's GSC tournament first round matchup moves on to the semifinals at the Pete Hanna Center on the campus of Samford University on Saturday at 5 p.m. against the winner of No. 4 seed West Georgia and No. 5 seed Valdosta State.
