Michael Gizzi Highlights UAH's Region Honors as South Region Track Athlete of the Year

NEW ORLEANS | The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced region awards for the 2023 indoor season, and The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's track and field team was represented by Michael Gizzi as South Region Track Athlete of the Year.
 
A native of Covington, Georgia, Gizzi became a First Team All-American in two events at 2023 Indoor Nationals earlier this month, as he earned a fifth in 200 meters and sixth in 60 meters.
 
He additionally was a First Team All-GSC performer in both of those running events and was named GSC Indoor Track Athlete of the Year as well.
 
The USTFCCCA also recently unveiled its All-South Region performers, including Justin Bensinger (shot put, weight throw), Gizzi (60 meters, 200 meters), Jeremiah McCain (200 meters, 400 meters, 60-meter hurdles), Wilson McClain (60-meter hurdles), Trey McFarland (high jump, heptathlon), Tommy Rodriguez (200 meters), and Thomas Vaughn (pole vault) from the men's side.
 
The UAH women's team also featured Ijah Drake (60 meters, 200 meters), Taylor Engram (5000 meters), Hannah Gant (weight throw), Ann Hampton (pole vault), Emily McMurry (5000 meters), Krystalynn Oatman (60 meters), and Ronni VanZant (pentathlon).
 
UAH is now amidst its 2023 outdoor campaign, as the squad looks ahead to its next action this weekend at the Ole Miss Classic and Lee Invitational.
