BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | The Gulf South Conference announced its 2025 indoor season awards on Wednesday, and the UAH track & field team was represented by
Sam Wilhelm as GSC Track Athlete of the Year,
Malik Turner as GSC Field Athlete of the Year, and
David Cain as GSC Men's Coach of the Year.
Wilhelm is the third consecutive UAH athlete to win Indoor Track Athlete of the Year, with
Michael Gizzi earning the honor in 2023 and 2024. The native of Knob Noster, Missouri, owns the fourth best 5,000 meter time (13:42.40) in NCAA Division II along with the 14th best time in the 3,000 meters (7:57.48).
Wilhelm qualified for the NCAA D-II Indoor Championships in the 3,000 meters, 5,000 meters, and as a member of the Distance Medley Relay.
Turner is the first UAH athlete to be named Indoor Field Athlete of the Year since 2022 after posting a stellar performance at the 2025 GSC Indoor Track & Field Championships where he earned Best Overall Performer.
The Fort Payne, Alabama, native took first place in the high jump at the conference meet at 2.04 meters and snagged second place finishes in both the long jump and triple jump. Turner will compete at the NCAA D-II Indoor Championships in the high jump.

David Cain claimed his sixth ever Coach of the Year designation and his first-ever award for the indoor season after the Chargers claimed their first GSC Indoor Championship. This is Cain's first GSC Coach of the Year award since 2022 where he was named GSC Outdoor Coach of the Year.
Qualifying Chargers look ahead to the 2025 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships on March 13-15, while the 2025 outdoor campaign starts on March 21-22 at the Ole Miss Classic.
