HUNTSVILLE | The Gulf South Conference announced their GSC Indoor Track & Field yearly awards on Thursday afternoon and UAH freshman Hekla Magnusdottir was named the GSC Freshman Athlete of the Year as selected by the league's head coaches. 

The Reykjavik, Iceland native was the champion of the Pentathlon at the Gulf South Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships on February 19th and 20th and was a school record-breaker in the event for the Chargers. 

The freshman additionally has qualified for the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships in Virginia Beach, Virginia at the Virginia Beach Sports Center next weekend (March 13-14).
